Keep answers business related, have a few questions at the end for the interviewer. Keep all your answers within reason and positive. Remember this is your standard so don’t promise the moon if you can’t deliver. Look sharp, conservative and have a positive friendly attitude.

    here’s the short version:

Dress professionally. If you don’t have a suit, then a conservative skirt and blouse/sweater for girls or dress slacks and shirt/tie for men.

Arrive no more than 10 minutes early. Too early and you’ll get nervous. Any later than that you won’t have time to compose yourself. Also shows you are the type of person who is on time.

Look the interviewer in the eye and shake hands firmly.

Bring a copy of your resume with you. Be ready to answer the question “tell me about yourself” by talking about your education, school activities and volunteer activities.

You’ll be asked questions like why do you want to work here so be ready to answer them. Here’s a list of some commonly asked questions: http://www.onlinecareerinfo.com/the-standard-interview-questions. Some of them won’t apply to you because you are not changing jobs but it will give you an idea of what to expect.

Have some questions ready to ask the person doing the interviewing. Some ideas: How long have you been with the company? What is your background? Why do you like working here? What would my primary duties/responsibilities be when I am hired? How do you evaluate employee performance? When do you do performance reviews? When are you going to make a final decision about hiring.

Get the person’s name (business card if possible) and correct spelling and send a thank you note to them after the interview.

Good luck. Take a deep breath and try not to be nervous. Just be yourself and you’ll do well.

rehearse your answers by saying them OUT LOUD! it’d be better to rehearse them in front of someone but that always isn’t an option.

Know for a fact that they will ask you what your strengths and weaknesses are. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot describing your weaknesses. I always mentioned that my biggest weakness was that I was straight out of school. So I didn’t have any on-the-job experience. That is a lot better than saying you are shy around new people or something like that.

Another good tip is to always research the company before you go. Find out their history.

Lastly, have a couple questions of your own to ask the interviewer. It’s your chance to get to know the company and if it is a good fit for you.

    Be prepared.

Do an online search for the company, find out something about it. One of the many questions: “What do you know about our company”?

Go online to places like monster.com, there’s a list of most common interview questions. Read and practice your answers.

    Go 15 min early.
    Dress professionally.
Take a copy of your resume with you.
Be confident, look your interviewer in the eye.
    Relax.
    Good luck!

Maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Do not volunteer infomation about mistakes you have made at another job. Sit upright without being stiff. Do not cross your arms. Be friendly but do not act “chummy” with the interviewer. Do not vent frustrations about or discredit a former employer.

Be confident but not arrogant, dress well (and in accordance with the type of comapny or position), research the company thoroughly, know about it’s history going in. Ask questions…is there room for growth with this position? what is their standing on promoting from within? etc. Don’t go in asking how much vacations time you get and ow they feel about sick days…
Speak clearly and confidently. Be sure of your answers…if you don’t know something, tell the you don’t know the answer to that question, but you will be happy to research it. Don’t stumble your way through or BS something you don’t have a clue on. Be honest. Be clear in what you would like to do and what your goals are, and ask what the companies goals are. Take a clean copy of your resume, and don’t be afraid to take notes or jot down things you may have question on.

    Good Luck!
