Entry level office jobs with no experience needed?
I am helping someone find another job and they have no office experience. What office jobs are there that they can pick up on really quick? They have some basic office skills. They would really like to start working in an office but we don’t know where to start looking for a job. Any suggestions and extra info is helpful and please only serious people.
It’s a guy. I don’t know if this would change things. He doesn’t have any college experience either.

They could start out as a receptionist and learn some new skills and move up to secretary.
One of the best places to look for entry level jobs, even office jobs, is at a local college or university job board. I got my start there.
A good place to start if you have no office experience is a temp. agency. That way she will gain experience in different kinds of offices. It is super easy and most of them get paid by the employer.
Try small companies first. Look for jobs with Assistant, Clerk or Reception in their titles.
If the unemployment rate is real low, she/he could try a temp service to get their first break. Unless you live somewhere with a high unemployment rate, then it would be tough to get a break even through a service.
Yeah that was my problem. I really wanted an office job but all the experience I had was in labor or sales. And to top it off, I had no computer skills at all. At least not in a business setting. But I didn’t let that stop me. Tell her to look in the local community colleges job board. They are more willing to work with students and people who are just starting out and may not have all of the experience they would like. I would say to avoid the newspaper cause they tend to look for people with years of experience working in an office so that is not ideal for her. Also, Look for key words like entry level, no experience necessary and will train. It is helpful to have some knowledge of a computer and be able to type and know your typing speed. They have online tests that can help you determine what your speed is and you can put that information on your resume. The key thing is to not let rejection get her down. When I was job searching about a six months ago I was going for office jobs but had little experience and was turned down I don’t know how many times. Six months later I saw an ad on my schools job board for an insurance company looking for an office clerk and applied and it didn’t matter that I didn’t have experience and I was hired and have learned so much! It pays to not give up.
The best position to start is as a receptionist at an office. But even that he needs to know how to use a computer. He needs to take computer classes. Go to a community college and take some classes. He needs to start at small companies while attending classes. After he gets enough experience (at least 2 years at the same company) then he can start looking for a new and better job.
I started as a file clerk at a legal firm. I caught on quickly, and they promoted me to a regular office job.
