My boyfriend has a full-time job and still manages to plug 25 – 30 hours a week into his PS3.

How can he find a job as a video game tester? That would be his dream job!

The best way would to become a tester is to take English classes in college, along with computer/tech. Then a game company will take him seriously enough to hire him. English for writing reviews and explainging problems, tech/computers for understanding the games inner workings and what the designers go through and explain the problems again in technical terms.

I would not recommend a job as a video game tester. There are many horror stories of video game testers. Unfinished games, which is what he’d be playing, are not “fun” to play.

He should find a local game studio and apply for a QA position. It’s little pay, sometimes weird long hours and overtime is sometimes required. Not sure if it would really be his dream job as there is WAY more to testing games than just “playing” through a game. It’s quite tedious trying to find bugs/glitches. Make sure you and him do more research on it and don’t fall for those online game testing sites that say they pay you like $90/hr. He is looking at $10/hr, 40+ per week. Including weekends. Depends on the studio though.

My blog may be able to help you as well.

    Cheers!
